Paper Making Machine Press Roll

The press roll is the core component of the press section of a paper machine. Its main function is to remove moisture from the wet paper sheet through mechanical compression. This not only significantly reduces the steam energy consumption of the subsequent drying section, but also increases the density and strength of the paper sheet.

 

Paper Making Machine Press Roller Types

 

1. Vacuum Press Roll: The roll surface is covered with through holes, and an internal vacuum creates negative pressure to actively “suck out” moisture. Suitable for medium- and high-speed paper machines, it offers high dewatering efficiency and effectively extends felt life.

2. Grooved Press Roll: The roll surface is covered with a rubber layer and has spiral grooves, providing drainage channels for the squeezed water and preventing “re-wetting”.

3. Blind Hole Press Roll: The roll surface is drilled with tens of thousands of non-penetrating small holes, combining a large pressure zone with good dewatering effect. Suitable for medium-speed paper machines.

4. Shoe Press: A fixed pressure shoe replaces the rotating roll, creating an extremely wide pressure zone (up to 250mm) and extremely high linear pressure. This is the preferred choice for modern high-speed wide-width paper machines, enabling higher levels of paper dryness.

 

In actual production, a paper machine often has dozens of rollers.
